How I AM ABLE Supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

At I AM ABLE, we are committed to building a more inclusive, just, and accessible world for persons with disabilities (PWDs). Our work is grounded in practical action, advocacy, and partnerships that directly support several of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Here’s how we’re putting these goals into action:

SDG 4 – Quality Education:
Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

We believe that access to education is a basic human right. That’s why we work to create inclusive learning opportunities for persons with disabilities of all ages. Whether it’s through skills training, awareness workshops, or linking individuals to special needs resources, we aim to break down the barriers that prevent PWDs from learning and growing. Our goal is to build confidence, independence, and the kind of knowledge that leads to personal and economic empowerment.

SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth:
Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all

Economic inclusion is a priority for us. We support PWDs in gaining access to fair work opportunities by offering entrepreneurial support, mentorship, job-readiness programs, and advocacy for inclusive hiring practices. We also aim to link PWDs with potential employers, funders, and business training to encourage self-employment and financial independence.

SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities:
Reduce inequality within and among countries

We actively advocate for social, economic, and political inclusion of persons with disabilities. Through campaigns, policy engagement, and community dialogues, we work to challenge discrimination and change perceptions. Our efforts are focused on building a society that respects the dignity, rights, and potential of every person—no matter their physical or mental condition.

SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities:
Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

Accessibility is a key aspect of sustainable communities. We will work with local government and community planners to advocate for disability-friendly infrastructure, public spaces, and transportation systems. We also encourage inclusive community events and promote safe, welcoming environments where everyone feels they belong.

SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions:
Promote peaceful and inclusive societies... and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels

We support and strengthen disability rights frameworks by engaging in advocacy, policy discussions, and awareness campaigns. We also help individuals understand their rights and provide support in navigating systems that are often difficult for PWDs to access. Our goal is to hold institutions accountable and ensure they serve all members of society fairly.

SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals:
Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development

We know we can’t do this work alone. That’s why I AM ABLE builds strong partnerships with other non-profits, community leaders, government departments, healthcare providers, schools, and businesses. Together, we create better programs, share resources, and reach more people. Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do.
